The Office For National Statistics revealed that 31.5 million people are now in work this is the highest total since records began in 1971. The UK now has a employment rate of 74% and a jobless rate of 5% the lowest for a decade. Average earnings increased by 2%.
In the public sector employment has increased by 6000 and the number of workers in the private firms has topped 26 million which is 50,0000 more than at the end of last year and almost half a million a year ago making those in work a 45-year high.
